Does Your Project Qualify for Federal Lands Access Program Funding?

July 31, 2025

The Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) is accepting grant applications now through August 29, 2025, for projects that improve safe and equitable access to and through federal lands. FLAP supports state and local transportation infrastructure, including trails, on-street bike/ped infrastructure, transit systems, and other transportation facilities, particularly in high-traffic recreational areas and economic hubs.

To qualify for funding, proposed projects must be located within a public highway, road, bridge, trail, or transit system. The project area must be owned or maintained by a state, county, city, township, tribal, municipal, or other local government entity.  A range of project types is eligible for this funding, including planning/design, engineering, and construction.

Go Georgia encourages communities with federal lands to consider FLAP funding for their bike/walk/roll projects. A recent legislative update has even removed the requirement for matching funds, so FLAP funding can now cover 100% of project costs.

Go Georgia provides  technical and educational support for active transportation grant applications through our Grants Assistance Program (GAP), such as grant strategy, project scoping, and navigation of application requirements. GAP assistance is provided on a sliding scale, including free or discounted support for under-resourced communities.

We look forward to continuing supporting Georgia communities as they make and pursue vital investments in outdoor recreation and active transportation. To see if your community is a good fit to work with our Grants Assistance Program, please contact us at grants@go-georgia.org.
