Description

The Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure (BICI) is a competitive grant program that funds projects to accelerate the development of safe cycling infrastructure in up to 25 cities worldwide. The program supports cities through every phase of the process, from community engagement, design, and implementation to project evaluation and documentation.

Eligible Projects

Must be a city with a population over 100,000

Protected and unprotected bicycle facilities (cycle tracks, bike lanes, cycle streets)

Traffic calming and intersection improvements

Corridor, network gap, and neighborhood-scale projects

Street redesigns and roadway reallocation projects

Innovative projects that improve cycling safety and connectivity

Best Practices

BICI supports projects that (1) have a strong vision for cycling, (2) reimagine a city’s street space, (3) expand a city’s cycling networks, (4) improve safety, (5) introduce innovative practice, and (6) act as lighthouse cities (urban areas that demonstrate new, smart technologies to fight climate change).

BICI heavily favors projects that show a commitment to collaboration and innovation. Applicants should show a willingness to strengthen existing practices and explore new approaches that enhance safety, accessibility, and overall community well-being.
